Landed in Kigali!

After a very long flight we have landed in Kigali and are sleeping off some serious exhaustion but we are excited. For the first few months we are living at a friends place, so everything we need is already at the house and we can take a little while to relax without setting up a whole new life from scratch. The weather here has been cloudy and cool- around 65 F. There has been a lot of rain as well which tears up the roads quite a bit.

We are also learning to navigate Kigali (a 1.8 million person city) and it has been an adventure to say the least. We spent an hour lost today. Most of the roads are still dirt, there are no real street names and rules of the driving are, suffice it to say, relaxed. Lots of Rwandan Christians pray together before they hit the road and now we know why! Luckily most people drive very slowly so we are fairly safe in a car- certainly more safe than the dozens of motorcycles (mottos) zipping in and out of the churning traffic.

The Archbishop has given me a week to relax before I start work , when we will meet with all the pastors in the diocese to try to communicate expectations and goals for my position here. I am very excited to connect and start working (one might say chomping at the bit!) but this early break will hopefully give us some time to get lessons in the local language.

Thankfully we have not seen many mosquitos!

Things to pray for:

1) Protection from Malaria.
2) Protection while driving.
3) Finding a part-time position for Emily.
4) Making personal connections with NGOs (like World Vision)
5) Finding a new group of friends here.
